- 1 Louez l'Éternel! Serviteurs de l'Éternel, louez, Louez le nom de l'Éternel!
- 2 Que le nom de l'Éternel soit béni, Dès maintenant et à jamais!
- 3 Du lever du soleil jusqu'à son couchant, Que le nom de l'Éternel soit célébré!
- 4 L'Éternel est élevé au-dessus de toutes les nations, Sa gloire est au-dessus des cieux.
- 5 Qui est semblable à l'Éternel, notre Dieu? Il a sa demeure en haut;
- 6 Il abaisse les regards Sur les cieux et sur la terre.
- 7 De la poussière il retire le pauvre, Du fumier il relève l'indigent,
- 8 Pour les faire asseoir avec les grands, Avec les grands de son peuple.
- 9 Il donne une maison à celle qui était stérile, Il en fait une mère joyeuse au milieu de ses enfants. Louez l'Éternel!

En 1874, suite à une commande de la Compagnie des Pasteurs de Genève, parait la traduction de l’Ancien Testament par Louis Segond, pasteur et théologien (1810-1885).
Une traduction précise dans un français toujours très correct, une grande clarté dans l’expression expliquent le succès de son travail. Louis Segond traduit ensuite le Nouveau Testament et la Bible complète parait en 1880.
Révisée plusieurs fois depuis, elle est devenue la Bible la plus largement répandue dans les milieux protestants de langue française.
