Guides have been meeting at St John’s Church since 1925. Guides have changed a great deal since, but we still take part in lots of exciting and challenging activities.

One of our girls described Guides as “Fun, Friendly and Fantastic”.

The Guide Section is for girls aged 10 – 14 years and we meet on Wednesday nights during term time from 7:30pm until 9pm.

All Guides work towards Activity Badges, "Go for Its", Community Action activities and Challenge Badges.

At the age of 12, Guides (if they wish), can start to work toward their Baden Powell (BP) Challenge Badge; the highest award within the Guide section.

We encourage the Guides to plan their own activities around resources that we provide. We do a range of indoor and outdoor activities – from presentations for Guides' BP Challenge, Cooks Badge, First Aid,  Outdoor Cook Badge and staying overnight at the Colne Valley Museum. We go camping at least twice a year – including a 5 day camping trip.

Brownies have been meeting on Wednesdays from 6 - 7.30 pm in term time on St. John’s premises since 1941 & although the Brownies of today are very different to those of over 70 years ago, there is still the same fun & excitement involved.

The Brownie section, with an age range of 7 – 10 years, is the most popular part of Girlguiding & we follow a programme called the Brownie Adventure with challenge areas of You, the Community & the World.

Within the programme the Brownies have lots of fun doing badges, playing games & trying different crafts & activities. They have colourful resource books which help them to plan their own programme – both inside & out - & we regularly go on trips & adventures of up to 2 nights away.

There have been Rainbows at St. John’s since they were formed nationally in 1987. We have a full & lively group of 5 – 7 year olds who meet every Wednesday in term time between 5 & 6 pm.

This youngest section of Girlguiding follows a programme called “The Rainbow Jigsaw” with activity areas linked to Look, Learn, Laugh & Love. We have lots of fun doing games, crafts, challenges, songs & stories & we go on trips including overnights. Almost all the Rainbows go on to become Brownies.
